In Greek Mythology, weaving is depicted as heroic, magnificent, clever, valuable, the womanly counterpart to warfare. Arachne was a master weaver by virtue of extensive training, long experience, keen intellect, and fine taste. In this collection three very different kinds of materials- cotton thread in white and blue- depicting the Santorini colors, metal wire in gold finish embodying divine powers, and sisal fiber in natural finish- representing natural contrasting textures are interlaced at more or less right angles to each other within a gold-finished metal framework that holds them under tension. Patterns are created by meticulously varying the length of the threads, each turning back and forth in their own separate areas by our skilled artisans. The overall form follows simple geometry highlighting the visual impact of various textures creating Grecian imagery.
